On the “Slowness” and “Fastness” in the Novel Narrative: A Case Study of Shao Li's Novels

电子媒介时代的人们获得信息更加便捷和丰富,世界的面貌也在人们面前更加含混模糊。在这样的情况下,小说叙事只有慢下来,才有可能照亮世界的复杂,呈现出表面单纯事件的幽暗曲折之处。另一方面,如果小说叙事一味强调叙事的"慢",最终可能会导致小说叙事陷入停滞。在当下的电子媒介时代,小说叙事必须强调"慢"与"快"的有机结合。

In the age of electronic media, people get more convenient and fast access to information and the world becomes increasingly elusive. Under these circumstances, the rhythm of the novel narrative must be slowed down so as to discover the complexities of the society and the subtleness of events described. However, the development of plot cannot be too slow to go on.Therefore,'slowness'and'fastness'are only relative and should be flexibly combined.
