Men of the Central Plains, Li Peifu's latest novel, has been the subject of much controversy. On the one hand, the novel creates successfully two major characters, Li Delin and Helian Dongshan, and expresses profound thoughts and feelings about the land and reveals a vigilance and self-reflection on the current problems. On the other hand, repetition of the novelist's former works is universally present in the novel's language, narrative structure and narrative skills.
