William Faulkner’s Unreliable Narration and the Evolution of the Realist Paradigm

福克纳在小说作品中采用了大量的不可靠叙述,这一叙述手法的运用与现代主义思潮下文学关于如何表现'真实'的观念转变有紧密联系。本论文将不可靠叙述作为历史文化研究中的一种现象加以考察,分别探究福克纳小说中的认知低下型不可靠叙述者、处于价值观困境的不可靠叙述者,以及多叙述角度对比中的不可靠叙述者,梳理这些不可靠叙述现象与现代主义的文化观念之间的内在关联,阐释现代主义文学中普遍存在不可靠叙述这一现象的文化原因。

Faulkner used a large number of unreliable narrators in his novels,which was closely related to the evolution of how fiction shows'reality'under the influence of modernism.This paper treats the unreliable narration as a historically and culturally determined phenomenon,and analyzes the unreliable narrators who have cognitive disorder,are in the dilemma of values,and are put in the multiple narrative perspectives.Through exploring the relationship between narratorial unreliability and the modernist concept,I try to explain why the unreliable narration is prevalent in modernist literature.
