In Qingdao,it is still said that one hundred thousand Chinese workers once moved to Europe.Did the'one hundred thousand Chinese workers'leave from the Qingdao Port?Or was it the total number of the workers collected by Britain and France in Shandong Province? It cannot be found out now.Anyway,'one hundred thousand Chinese workers'was a hearsay at that time and has been widely spread.According to statistics from France, during WWI,—that is between 1916 and 1918,among the 140,000 Chinese workers sent to the Port of Marseilles, there were over 70,000 from Shandong Province, followed by those from Hebei Province.Meanwhile,China has also sent more workers to Russia,as many as 200,000 or so.Now,it is unknown how many people among them came from Shandong. There may be grounds for the statement of'one hundred thousand Chinese workers'.
