摘要
本文在简要介绍修辞结构理论基本思想的基础上,探讨了Barbara A.Fox有关名词前指及代词前指在语篇中分布规律的理论,并尝试用实例证明这些规律的解释力.文章指出,了解前指的分布规律对理解与分析语篇有着重要作用.
This paper starts with a brief introduction to Rhetorical Structure Theory. It then discusses the rules of distribution of the two basic patterns of anaphora (nominal and pronominal anaphora) in written English texts proposed by Barbara A. Fox. Our analysis of the distribution of anaphora in a sample text proves the explanatory power of Fox's rules. The paper finally points out that the knowledge of the distribution of anaphora facilitates the understanding and analysis of texts.
