This text investigates the origin and development of oil painting in the West and the relationship between art of oil painting and history, social culture, science and technology and also the conditions of the current culture and art. It discusses the oil painting' s conceding from the center to the edge inside the western art,the basic reason for the change of value's connotation and the worthiness of the oil painting's subsist. What's more,the reasons for change and process of western oil painting art's have lots of enlightening effects on the development of the contemporary oil painting in our country.
