Natural disasters and their damages in the Huaihe Valley in the middle period of Qing Dynasty

清代中叶安徽省淮河流域的自然灾害有四个基本特点 ,长期、频繁、深重和普遍的自然灾害给该地区的民众生活和社会经济造成严重危害 ,并成为捻军起义的直接和基本原因之一。

This paper sums up the four basic characteristics of natural disasters happened in the Huaihe Valley of Anhui in the middle period of Qing Dynasty. The paper also points out that long-term, frequent, severe and widespread natural disasters caused the damages to the people's life and the social economy, which resulted in Nian Army's Uprising in a direct and basic way.
