On the writing style of 'Sanqu' by Xue Lundao

薛论道是明代中期的散曲家,其散曲集《林石逸兴》存小令一千首,题材内容广泛,不仅描绘了军旅生活,而且反映出了明代中期的历史特征。在创作中,他有意识地以自己的豪放沉郁风格,做出改变当时曲坛创作状况的努力。对其创作成就,历来重视程度不够。对其作品题材内容和艺术风格进行分析概括,公正地评价他在散曲发展史上的地位,可以引起研究界对其创作特征和创作成就的进一步研究。

Xue Lundao was a writer of Sanqu(an artistic form of lyric poetry which was originated from folk songs and prosperous in Yuan Dynasty)in the mid-Ming Dynasty. His collection of Sanqu named Lin Shi Yi Xing (which means live in a free and easy style as a hermit) includes one thousand Xiao Ling (a kind of short form of 'Sanqu' ). It covers a wide rang of subjects and reflects many aspects of life in the mid-Ming Dynasty. Xue Lundao wrote his Xiao Ling in bold and unconstrained style, which had a unique position in the history of Chinese Sanqu. This paper makes a comprehensive study of Xue Lundao's work of Xiao Ling, with some comments on it.
