摘要 MI理论即多元智力理论或多元智能理论 (theory of multiple intelligence)是由美国哈佛大学心理学教授加德纳博士 (Gardner,1 983;1 993;1 999)在对人类潜能研究的基础上提出的。他认为人类的智能是多元的 ,包含了九种基本智能。 MI理论是对智能及其性质和结构挑战的新的认知理论 ,对传统的智能理论提出了严峻的挑战 ,并在美国教育界引起了热烈的讨论。但关于 Gardner的多元智能理论似乎并未引起国内外语学界的重视。重新审视各家的理论和实践 ,Gardner关于智力的独特看法也许在某种程度上更能代表并预示认知研究的发展趋势 ,尤其对于外语教育实践者来说 ,Gardner的理论似乎裨益更多。本文主要介绍了 MI理论的框架 ,并就 Theory of multiple intelligence was created by Dr. Howard Gardner (1983,1993, 1999),psychologist and professor in Harvard University, the USA, based on the research of human’s potential. In his theory of multiple intelligence, Gardner expanded the concept of intelligence to such areas as music, spacial relations, and interpersonal knowledge in addition to mathematical and linguistic ability, covering nine basic intelligences. MI can be considered a new challenge cognitive theory in terms of intelligence and its quality, structure, a new challenge to traditional intelligence as well. MI brings about hot discussions in the education of the USA and most parts of the world. However, MI has been neglected in the field of TESOL in China. With survey of theories and their applications, the author of the paper thinks some unique findings of MI will represent and prefigure the developing trends of cognition. MI will benefit TESOL teachers greatly. The paper introduces the frames of MI and discusses its sense in TESOL.
