The importance of characteristic curves in product design is discussed, traditional methods to adjust NURBS curve's shape is studied, and a new way to modify NURBS curve's shape by changing the control points' distribution is put forward. It's proved by an example that the new way can create the needed characteristic curves more quickly and accurately than traditional methods.
