希腊城邦制度的存在决定了古代奥林匹克的产生与发展。但在基督教统治欧洲之后 ,古代奥林匹克运动会被视为异端行为而被取缔。近代文艺复兴后的社会革命 ,从根本上恢复了被基督教掩盖的、古希腊的欢乐的世俗的人生哲学、民主制度 ,进而使古希腊文明的奇葩———奥林匹克运动得以在现代社会复苏。

The existence of Greek city-state system decided the emergence and development of ancient Olympics. But after Christian ruled over Europe,the ancient Olympic Games were taken as hectic and abolished. The Renaissance recovered the happiness of the ordinary people whose life philosophy and democratic system were renewed and at last the Olympic Games revived.
