Conceptual blending theory and relevance theory are in the same orbit of cognitive linguistics. they share essential similartities in their approaches, which are embodied in three aspects: the metonymic principle of communication, on-line reasoning, and information blending between explicit information and implicit assumptions. We argue that these two theories are in reality compatible and complementary, and comparative studies will illuminate some of the central issues of communication.
