The paper focuses on a detailed analysis of the configuration of Hamlet, his revenge in the feminist perspective, and the relation with body politics in Updike's latest novel, Gertrude and Claudius. This is conducted by means of a comprehensive comparison with Shakespeare's play. And, the deconstruction and reconstruction of the image of Hamlet are not merely out of Updike's personal preference, but out of the priority of life over ethical codes in postmodern context. Updike's attitude in treating Hamlet and his revenge is ambiguous, which both gives expression to its complexity, and puzzles readers in ethical judgements.
