The growth of nestlings of birds is paid a great attention by many scholars in their studies on the biology of birds, and many achievments have been obtained. Chlamydotis undulata is the first-class protected bird in China. The distribution, present situation, migration route, reproduction, population dynamic, habitats selection, etc of this bird have been extensively studied. In this paper, the growth of the nestlings of Chlamydotis undulata macqueenii is researched. The study area (43°53′~44°21′N, 90°32′~91°21′E, 800~1000 m a.s.l.) is located in the eastern marginal zone of the Junggar Basin, Xinjiang, and is about 100 km northeast of Mori County Town. It is arid and cold in the study area, the monthly air temperature in January is -15 ℃, and the annual precipitation is 150 mm. The results show that the increase of their avoirdupois and the growth of the outer apparatuses of the nestlings of Chlamydotis undulata macqueenii are rapid in the first month after they are born, then the growth speed reduces with their growth. The increase of their avoirdupois is more important for the nutrition supply and the thermal regulation during the growth of the nestlings of Chlamydotis undulata macqueenii than other outer apparatuses. The growth of their shanks and wings is prior than their skulls and tails.
