Grain Trade between China and Canada in the 1960s and America' s Interference

为了解决严重的粮食剩余问题,加拿大当时的农业部长汉密尔顿推动了60年代的中加小麦贸易。为避免美国阻挠、破坏,初期加拿大政府对美国保密。为阻止贸易,美国动用《美国与敌对国家贸易法》,接二连三地给加拿大销售到中国的粮食运输设置障碍,公然侵犯加拿大主权;借口中国支持越南“侵略”,还要求加拿大停止粮食贸易,遭到加拿大政府强烈反抗。美国人表示不理解加拿大的行动,冷战已使他们难以理解任何国家都离不开世界贸易这个简单道理。

In order to solve the matters of foodstuff surpluses, Hanmilton, the former minister of Canadian agriculture ministry, drove the grain trade between China and Canada in the 1960s. For avoiding America's interference and destroys, at the beginning of the trade, the Canadian government kept every information closed strictly. In order to stop the trade, the American government set up some obstacles for the transport of the grain sold to China for many times by using 'The United State's Trading with the Enemy Act' . Further more, America required the Canadian government to stop the grain trade on the pretext of China's supporting the Vietnamese invasion. The Canadian government rejected the American retirement and the let the trade continued. America did not think the issue understandable. After all, at that time, the Cold War made America can not understand the simple truth, which is that every nation needs the world trade.
