Prince Shyotoku and Early Japanese Buddhism

佛教能在日本迅速传播并成为国教,主要得益于圣德太子的大力提倡。他在发展佛教方面的作用主要表现在:一、确立佛教在日本的地位;二、兴建佛寺、像塔,翻译佛经、广度僧尼;三、广招中朝僧尼前来日本授法,派遣隋使到中国大陆吸纳以佛教为主的先进文化,为日本古代文明的前行做出了重要贡献。

Buddhism,advocated energetically by Prince Shyotoku,spread by leap and bounds in Japan and became Japanese state religion.His achievements in developing Buddhism are:First,establishing Buddhism ' s position in Japan.Second,building Buddhist temples and pagodas,translating Buddhist scriptures and delivering Buddhist monks.Third,widely recruiting the Buddhist monks of China and Korea to Japan and asking them to teach Buddhism;Also sending Kenzuishi(Japanese envoys sent to Sui Dynasty)to absorb advanced cultures,in which Buddhism was the most important;making important contributions to promoting the friendly China-Japan exchange.
