The theme of religious salvation in Flannery O' Connor s works has repeatedly been discussed by literary critics at home and abroad while other themes such as the philosophical theme have been long overlooked. Wise Blood is O' Connor' s best novel, which philosophically explores the meaning of life and expresses the writer s religious concern for existence. Taking Sartre' s viewpoint of freedom and choice in his atheist existentialism as the referral, we detailedly analyze the principal characters (Hazel Motes and Enoch Emery), the relevant plots and images in the novel. We conclude that the novel is in fact a complete deconsrruction and rejection of Sartre's viewpoint on freedom and choice.
