摘要
《中国佬》是华裔第二代女作家汤婷婷的代表作,无论在通俗文学市场还是在严肃的学术研究中都令人瞩目。汤婷婷在讲述一批中国早期移民在美国艰辛的生存故事的同时,将笔下主人公沉默无语的描写贯穿全书的始终。作者通过这批中国早期移民尴尬的生存经历,着重揭示了沉默在该书中所蕴含的种族歧视和性别歧视的双重象征意义。
China Men is one of the representative works by Chinese American writer M. H. Kingston. It has won wide recognition both in popular literary market and in scholarly endeavors. Based on a critical analysis of the early Chinese immigrants life experience in Kingston's China Men, this paper intends to delineate the symbolic meanings of silence implied in this book.
