摘要
Since Hu Shi and Feng Youlan initiated the studies of the history of Chinese philosophy,it was well known that the concept of Qi in the ancient Chinese philosophy is usually corresponding to the category of "substance"in the European Philosophy. However, the substance in the European philosophy has no consciousness, excluding spiritual elements.Spirit can exist independently even without the substance. However, the spiritual phenomenon is originally regarded as one kind of Qi by the ancient chinese philosophers, and later as the inherent nature of Qi.The Spirit in Chinese philosophy cannot exist without Qi.When Qi is polymerizing and forming man,the inherent nature of Qi will turn into Spirit. To fully understand the key difference is one of important issue in understanding Chinese and Western Cultures.
