In this paper image compression method using fractal and discrete cosine transform (DCT) is discussed first.Then a new means in DCT domain,adaptive classified weighted least square method (WLSM),is presented.Experiments on standard grayscale image showed that the coding speed is much faster than that of using the common fractal method in DCT domain at the cost of a little lower PSNR.
