In this paper, a novel triangle based video coding scheme for very low bit rate transmission is presented. In the scheme, regular triangular meshes as used in reference are replaced by adaptive DT mesh generated by a split merge approach, and then a new method based on the umbrella matching algorithm (UMA) is developed to refine the coarse motion vectors of DT's vertices derived from a BMA. Computer simulations are carried out to evaluate the coding efficiency at 16kbit/s. The results show that the quality of the decoded images is improved greatly compared to BMA or other triangle based methods.
