As the core theoretical guidelines for current American and Chinese foreign affairs,hegemonic stability theory and the Chinese new concept of security have had very important influences on the development of international relations.A comparison of the differences and similarities between these two theories will help us further understand the complexity of international affairs as well as the position of the Chinese government toward some important issues,for instance the Iraq issue.
