Jaspers' idea of 'axial period' is to a large extent a correction of Hegel's and Weber's claim of supremacy for western philosophy. Through exchanges of alien ideas, an all-embracing history of the philosophical world becomes possible. Jaspers' own Great Philosophers is a sketchy attempt for such a history.
