A Probe into "Conversational Implicature" and Translation of Dialogues in A Dream of Red Mansions

美国语言哲学家格莱斯提出的合作原则与会话含意理论,解释了人们言语交际中表达超出话语的表面意义而蕴含弦外之音和言外之意的现象。在小说翻译中,运用此理论来分析和再现人物对话,有助于译者捕捉隐含在字里行间的言外之意,提高译文的准确度,是语用学于翻译研究的贡献。

The Cooperative Principle and Conversational Implicature theory by Grice explain,that in human verbal communication, there are cases when participants express more than what they mean in the surface. It proves to be helpful in understanding and translating dialogues in novels. This article makes a tentative analysis of the application of the theory in translation by using examples from A Dream of Red Mansions by Yang Hsien-yi and Gladys Yang.
