This paper intends to deal with the syntactic distributions of the demonstrative adverbs 'zheme' and 'name' which are derived respectively from the demonstrative pronouns 'zhe' and 'na'. What determines the usage of the words 'zheme' and 'name' is the reference distances, which fall into the three types: temporal distance, spatial distance and psychological distance. Based on the analysis in the preceding section, the article discusses in detail the syntactic behaviour both of 'zheme' and 'name' in the negative patterns.
