Phillips China Inc, a subsidiary of ConocoPhillips, has recently made twooffshore discoveries in Bozhong 11/05 Block of China's Bohai Bay area. In January 2003, Phillipsstarted to drill Penglai 19-9-1, an exploration well, 3.2 kilometers east of Penglai 19-3 oil field.This exploration well found net oil and gas layers with a thickness of 31 meters (102 feet) from Mnand Ng sandstone. This discovery, together with the surrounding structures, has been included inthe second stage of the development project for Penglai 19-3 oil field. Two months later, Phillipscompleted drilling of another exploration well ― Penglai 13-1-1-29 kilometers north of Penglai 19-3oil field. This well found net oil and gas layers with a thickness of nearly 40 meters (132 feet)from Mn and Ng sandstone. The company has planned to drill some evaluation wells to appraise thediscoveries and surrounding structures in the block.
