摘要 Art critics simply classify traditional Chinese painting undertwo types: fine-brush painting and ink-and-water painting. Ac-cording to their aesthetic, freehand-brush painting is theo-retically put under ink-and-water painting, which means thatfine-brush painting has only colored works and freehand-brushonly with ink-and-water. However, Mr. Wu Dongfen believesthat fine-brush flower-and-bird painting originated from col-ored painting, and then developed into fine-brush flower-and-birds painting with ink and water in Yuan Dynasty, in whichsome artists and their works are still known, such as WangYuan and his Flowers, Bamboo and Birds Picture, Chen Lin andhis Wild Duck in Stream, and Zhang Shouzhong and his Lotusand Mandarin Ducks. But this kind of painting with ink andwater had been in an inferior position since literati paintingswere dominant in history. Creating flower-and-bird paintingin his own way, Mr. Wu tries to make a fresh start in fine-brush painting with ink and water.
