2 0世纪 90年代初期 ,中国知识分子在经历了剧烈的社会动荡、迷茫、痛苦、困惑的阶段之后 ,开始反思 ,寻找失去的精神家园 :这就是发生在中国现代化历史进程中 1993 1995年的人文精神大讨论。这次讨论凸现了当代中国社会的一些具有根本性的大问题 ,在中国现当代历史上留下了深深的印记。十年过去了 ,这些问题的重要性非但没有减少 ,而且成为中国知识界或人文和社会科学界需要解决的一个最重要的任务。回顾与反思这段历史 ,对于更好地研究当代中国社会、使中国的人文学术和社会科学运用恰当的研究方法和理论为整个人类思想增加新的活力 。

In the early 90s, after the period of dramatic social turbulence, confusion, agony and perplexity, Chinese intellectuals began to reflect and to seek for the lost spiritual homestead. This is represented by the great discussion of humanism which took place during 1993-1995 in Chinese modern history. This discussion revealed the basic issues in modern Chinese society and left a deep impression on modern Chinese history. Ten years later, the significance of these issues hasn’t diminished at all, and to solve these problems has become an important task for modern Chinese intelligentsia and the domain of humanistic and social science. Reviewing the history of this period can provide significant insight in that it helps better study modern Chinese society and helps Chinese humanistic and social science adopt appropriate methodology and theory to provide new vitality for human thoughts.
