关于西方市场社会形成的根源之一即个人主义基础的研究一直是西方政治思想家研究的重点。在大量的有关研究中 ,麦克弗森的拥占性个人主义理论独树一帜 ,占据十分重要的地位。但是 ,麦克弗森指出 ,拥占性个人主义伦理尽管仍然是 2 0世纪西方自由民主社会的基础 ,却与民主制度之间日益形成了一种张力 ,麦克弗森称之为“2 0世纪的困境”。

Individualism is a long-time research theme for the western political thoughts. Among the vast amount of research achievements, Macpherson’s possessive individualism is outstanding. However, Macpherson put it that there is a tension between individualism and democracy, which is called the dilemma of twentieth century by himself.
