On the Literary Viewpoint of Xu Xuan

徐铉是五代最后一个,也是宋代第一个文论家。他的文学观是五代后期宋代初期文学实践的集中反映。徐铉论文主教化,论诗则强调缘情,尤其注重诗歌的自适功能。这两个方面并不矛盾。

Xu Xuan is the last literary critic in the Five Dynasties, and the first one in Song dynasty. His literary viewpoint is the concentrated reflection of the literary experience and creativity during the later stage of the Five Dynasties and the initial stage of Song dynasty. Xu Xuan emphasized the function of moral education in articles while advocated lyricism in poems , paying attention to self-adaptive function of poems especially. These two respects are not contradictory.
