卡内罗(R.L.Carneiro)教授是当代著名人类学家,在国际人类学界享有很高的声誉,现任美国自然历史博物馆人类学部主任,美国科学院院士。本文是卡内罗教授为本刊所撰之专稿,对古典进化论在文明起源问题上的见解作了全面而深入的说明,希望以此对中国学术界同仁在思考类似问题时有所帮助。本刊编辑部代表全体读者向卡内罗教授致以深切谢意。

Professor R. L. Carneiro, as a world famous anthropologist, was the leader of anthropology department of American Natural History Museum and academician of American Academy. In this article, he analyzed viewpoints of classical theory of evolution on origin of civilization. It was hoped to be helpful to Chinese scholars.
