The Hardships Liu Yongfu Suffered When Returning to China after the Anti-French War

抗法名将刘永福因青年时曾参加反清起义,所以在中法战后回国问题上遭到各级官府的刁难。只是由于慈禧太后的出面干预,事情才得顺利解决。以后,在刘永福任官期间,得到慈禧太后的信用和保护,没受多大的挫折。从此事可以窥见慈禧太后对待反侵略有功将士的态度,对我们全面了解和评价慈禧太后有一定的帮助。这个问题学术界从未见涉及,特提出供同好者参考。

Liu Yongfo, a famous Anti-French War general, was found fault with, because of ever taking part in the and-Qing revolt, by local authorities at all levels on his way back to China. Only after the interference of Cixi, the queen mother, was the problem solved smoothly. From then on, during his terms at the post, he was trusted and protected by the queen mother Cixi, so he suffered less. From this we can learn something about Cixi's attitude towards anti-invasion officers and men with merits, which will help us, to some extent, have a thorough view on or evaluate Cixi. This perspective has never been touched by the academic world. We put it forward as a preference for anyone who is interested in it.
