Zhang Heng was a famous scientist, inventor, thinker, writer and artist in the East Han dynasty. He had advanced cosmic outlook and profound knowledge. All his life he had many scientific results, inventions and literary works, which were in the first place of the world then, such as armillary sphere, seismograph, windmeasuring instrument, compass and so on. Thus he was praised as 'The infrequency great figure of all round ability in the history of the world and worth being respected forever.'
