What else Can Literary Theory do?

文学理论的基本功能是对各种文学现象做出解释。在漫长的历史发展中文学理论形成了两大解释系统:偏重认知性的解释与偏重评价性的解释。在上个世纪这两大解释系统都遭遇了困境,新世纪的文学理论只能在这两大解释系统基础上寻求新的生长点:改变解释方式、扩大解释范围。

The basic function of literary theory is to interpret all kinds of literary phenomena, and in the long historical evolution literary theory has been coming two kinds of system of interpretation:the cognitive and the evaluative. These two systems have been in hot water in the last century, so the literary theory in the new century must seek new development based on these two kinds of system of interpretation, which means changing the mode and enlarging the range of interpretation.
