程度副词多用于修饰形容词,增强形容词词义,因此,程度副词又叫"增强语"(Amplifi er)。"增强语"可分为两类:提高程度语(theBooster)和最高程度语(theMaximizer)。提高程度语用来加强可分类形容词词义;最高程度语用来增强不可分类形容词词义。

Adverbs of degree, called amplifier, commonly is used to modify adjectives, amplifying their meanings. Amplifier can be divided into two groups: the booster and the maximizer. The former is used to amplify gradable adjectives while the latter is used to modify non-gradable adjectives.
