The Book of Songs consists of three parts-Songs, Odes and Hymns. Numerous poems in Odes and Hymns contain lines of yelling prayers. Rooted in religious and social practices, such prayers were uttered over the rituals of sacrifices and worship, banquets and ceremonies and ultimately served the rules of monarchical power. In case of their themes, authorships and occasions, these yelling prayers reflect the transmutations of mainstream cultural intension of the Zhou Dynasty through the gradual social development from witchcraft to history. Moreover, they are the initial embodiment of the gradual social and political maturity and the disillusion of political civilization of the Zhou Dynasty.
