A Control Method of Shunt Active Power Filter Based on the Active Power Balance

A simple control method of shunt active power filter, based on the active power balance theory. First the delivery processes of instantaneous active and passive powers is analyzed in a typical system. A shunt active power filter is used to compensate the harmonics generated by an inductor-resistor load. Then, from the point of view of the active power balance, the active current component needed by the whole system is obtained by PI regulating of DC voltage feedback. Finally simulations and experiments verify the method. Compared with conventional method, it does not need complicated harmonic detection and only needs two current sensors and one voltage sensor. Therefore the whole control system is quite simple and the good performance of harmonics compensation is verified by experiments.
