Living in seclusion was an ideal way for those in the East Han dynasty who wanted to keep their dignity and independence. In this way, they could not only maintain the elitist in spirit but also got the courteous reception from the ruling class, in which they made use of each other. The relationship is also put to the proof by Fan Ye, the writer of The History of the Late Han Dynasty.
