太平天国战争给广德县人口造成了毁灭性的摧残。战后,为了摆脱人少地多的窘境,地方官府采取一系列积极措施,广招民力。同治、光绪之际,迁往广德的移民掀起了高潮,外来客民逐渐构成了该县人口的主体。移民的大量迁入,广泛而深远地影响了近代广德县社会经济和文化生活发展的格局。

The war of Taiping Heavenly Kingdom damaged the county of GuangDe badly. After the war , the num-ber of people was greatly reduced and most of fields were desolated. In order to get rid of the difficulty, the local gov-ernment actively summoned the people from the other provinces to go to GuangDe to cultivate the soil and took many active measures . During the dynasty of TongZhi and GuangXu,transmigrants to GuangDe got a climax and gradually became the principal part of the population of GuangDe . They affected the situation of economy and culture of the lat-ter-day GuangDe widely and deeply.
