Making pauses, which can express deep emotions for poems, is a very important feature that we can not ignore when studying poetry. Making pauses for poems has made the verse less interconnected. Therefore, the readers can give free rein to their imagination, then the image of the poem seems to be infinite. Meanwhile, making pauses should obey some rules, for instance, embodying the feeling of the poet, conforming to the rhythm of the poem. However, Chinese modern poems in the late 20th century are random, classical, popularized in this aspect, which is complicated and has dispelled the significance and function of making pauses. In this paper, the writer has comprehensively studied the Chinese modern poems in the late 20th century from the aspect of making pauses, analyzed the rules that poets should follow when making pauses, pointed out that Chinese modern poets should assimilate ancient heritage, thus making modern poems more vigorous.
