Rhetorical Communications in Reliable Narratives: Great Expectations as an Example

以往对叙事中修辞交流关系的研究主要局限于不可靠叙事,对《远大前程》的叙事研究表明,可靠叙事中,叙事者可以通过对常规的有意模仿或背离来建构精彩的故事,叙事者和叙事读者之间的张力关系也可在话语层次上促进叙事的进程;主要受叙事者控制的修辞交流关系会在很大程度上影响读者对叙事的解读程序,但不同伦理的取位注定了读者对即使像《远大前程》这样的可靠叙事的阐释多样性。

Rhetorical communications do not occur in unreliable narratives alone. Our study on Great Expectations shows the implied author in a reliable narrative can also manipulate the rhetorical communications among the narrator, the text and the reader to construct a good story and facilitate the narrative's progression on discourse level. Although this manipulation has also largely influenced the reader's interpretation, different ethical positioning on the part of the reader necessitates the pluralistic reading of any novel, including one as reliable as Great Expectations.
