将小说置于殖民语境之中,考察主人公史蒂文斯身上表现出的"他者"特征,进一步指出了殖民意识对于"他者"在精神上的损害,以及作者对于后殖民时代"他者"命运的关注和预言。
This paper makes a tentative attempt to define the protagonist in The Remains of the Day within a colonial context, and reveals him as a metaphor for 'other'. Through this metaphor, the author seems to show the spiritual damage done to the colonized, and express his concern over and prediction about the fate of 'other' in the post-colonial era.
