This paper reviews the Chinese translation of Goethe's Die Leiden des jungen Werthers, which was regarded in China as one of the most important novels of European romanticism. Also this paper retraces the relationships between the German word 'jung' and its Chinese translation, showing the romantic background of the Chinese translation.
