Taiwan Strait incidents of 1995-1996

1995年5月美国为台湾的李登辉发放访美签证及1996年3月大陆为震慑台独势力所进行的导弹演习,既是两岸关系中的大事,也是中美关系中的大事。与1954年的第一次台海危机和1958年的第二次台海危机相比,它们既有相似之处,也有不同之点。事件对美国对台政策、两岸关系和中美关系都产生了深远而广泛的影响。

In May 1995 the U.S government issued visa to Taiwan's Li Tend-hui, and in March 1996 the Chinese army on the mainland conducted missile exercise, a threat to the Taiwan independent forces. These two incidents were considered as the major events in the cross-strait relation as well as in Sino-American relation. Compared with Taiwan Strait crises in 1994 and 1998, some similarities and differences might be found with the two incidents. The events had produced profound impact on U.S. policy toward Taiwan,on cross-strait relation and Sino-American relation.
