19世纪60至90年代,清政府陆续向欧美国家派遣使节。这是近代中国知识分子首次以官方代表的身份,怀抱明确的学习意图,实地游历、考察西方资本主义现代文明。他们的外交旅游活动具有历史开创性,不仅开阔了自身的眼界,思想认识得以提高、升华,而且促进了中西文化交流。

From the years of sixties to nineties in the nineteenth century, the government of Qing Dynasty dispatched envoys in succession to Europe and America. It was the first time that Chinese intellectuals, with the clear aim of drawing lesson from the experience of other countries, made a on-the-spot tour and investigation of Western capitalism civilization in an official capacity. Their diplomatic tour has the significance of inaugurating a new era, not only expands the range of experience of the oneself, the thought can also be improved and thus promotes cultural exchange between China and the West.
