由于工业化、现代化和城市化的进程中暴露出来的问题,功能主义的设计观受到了批判,设计界提出了以人为本的设计理念,随着生态心理学的诞生,环境设计的人文评价标准与生态标准得到了链接,环境设计需要从广义的生态观点出发,满足人的深层生态需要,创造符合自然界内在价值的人工环境。这一环境设计观的变化体现了人类中心主义已经受到了非人类中心主义的冲击,对此问题的讨论有助于建立合理的环境设计伦理观。

Owing to the problems that have been laid bare in the progress of industrialization, modernization, and urbanization, the design view of functionalism suffers criticism and a new design principle centering on human beings has been put forward in the design field. Along with the birth of the eco-psychology, the humanistic evaluation standard of environmental design gets chained to the ecological standard. The environmental design needs to start off from the broad-sense ecological standpoint, satisfying people's deep-layered ecological need and creating an artificial environment matching the inside worth of the nature. The change of the standards of evaluating environmental design shows that the human-centrism is challenged by nonhuman-centrism. This discussion on the topic helps to establish a reasonable ethical view of environmental design.
