20世纪以来的虞集研究,大致可以分为三个阶段。20世纪40年代以前,文学研究多着眼于作家之艺术技巧与艺术修养,由于虞集学问博洽,诗文艺术性较强,因而研究者对其多给予肯定。20世纪50至70年代,研究界开始引入社会—阶级分析方法,阶级性和人民性成为衡量文学作品的重要标准。在这种背景下,研究者对以艺术技巧见长的虞集,大多评价不高。20世纪80年代以来,学术研究中社会—阶级分析方法渐渐淡出,而文化—心理分析方法逐步为学者所接受和重视。这一阶段的虞集研究不再局限于品评其诗文成就的高低,而更加注重从社会文化背景、心态等方面总结其创作得失的深层原因。人们对虞集的认识渐趋全面。

Yu Ji (1272-1348) was a great man of letters of the Yuan Dynasty. The studies of him since the 20th century can be divided into three stages. Before the 1940's, scholars mostly approved of his artistic skills and accomplishments. From the 1950's to the 1970's, scholars thought little of him, as they adopted the method of social and class analyses in their studies. Since the 1980's, scholars have had a better understanding of him, because they have applied the method of cultural analysis and psychoanalysis.
