The Zigzag Way of the Chinese Modern Literary Research in the 20th Century

The modern literature research in the 20th century goes through three periods, forming a U-shaped track: unsatisfied early period(1920-1949), the worse medium period(1950-1979) and the most successfue later period(1980-1998). The social onvironment, esplcially the political and ideological enviroments, account far the phenomenon. The achievements and defects of the modern literature research who bear direct relationship with the researchers. Although they can hardly influence the society, they are able to control themselves and keep their scholars conscience their clear minds. This is the profound lesson given us from the history of 20th century’s modern literature research.
