A novel nickel(Ⅱ) complex [Ni(m phth)(CH 3OH) 4] n (m phth=isophthalate or 1,3 benzenedicarboxylate) has been prepared and characterized. Single crystal X ray diffraction analysis reveals that the complex crystallizes in monoclinic system, space group C2/c, a =1.693(8)nm, b =1.296 5(6)nm, c = 0.734 0 (3)nm, α =90°, β =109..383(7)°, γ =76.763(5)°, and V =1.519 9(11)nm 3, Z=4 . The coordination geometry at each Ni(Ⅱ) center is a nearly perfect octahedron. Adjacent 1D zigzag chains are connected by hydrogen bonds and π…π interactions to form three dimensional network.
