The Component Object Model(COM) technology and its applications to expert system are introduced. The advantage of COM technology in designing expert system is discussed. The tomato expert system in greenhouse based on COM technology is developed. The design and realization of components for knowledge base maintenance and inference engine are expatiated. It is convenient to program expert system with the components of knowledge base maintenance and inference engine. An example for testing the components of knowledge base and inference engine is also given.
